Pre-Surgical Screening Unit - Before You Arrive
Scheduling of your pre-surgical screening appointment
- You will receive either a phone call, a letter in the mail or an email to schedule your pre-surgical screening appointment.
- Appointments will be scheduled as phone, video or in-person appointments.
- If you are not available for the booked appointment, please call immediately to make other arrangements at 519 646-6100 ext. 66016 (Monday to Friday, 9 am to 4:30 pm)
Preparing for your appointment
For telephone and video appointments: Plan to conduct the interview in a quiet location free of distractions
- Have all your medications in their original containers, including inhalers (puffers), medicinal patches, sprays, eye drops, prescription creams, and vitamins, minerals and herbal products on hand and at the ready for your interview. The nurse will ask about all your medications during the interview.
- Have a list of all allergies to drugs, food and environment with your reactions
- Have a list of all operations, illnesses and health problems you have experienced, including dates
- Ensure you have any other information or test results (i.e. sleep studies, stress test reports)
For in-person appointments, bring:
- Your Ontario Health Card and any additional health insurance information
- All your medications in their original containers, including inhalers (puffers), medicinal patches, sprays, eye drops, prescription creams, and vitamins, minerals and herbal products
- A list of all allergies to drugs, food or environment and the reactions
- A list of all operations, illnesses and health problems in your life including dates
- Any other information or test results that you may have (i.e. sleep studies, stress test reports)
- A family member or friend
- Money or a credit card for the parking garage. (Up-to-date parking rates and locations are available on our Parking at St. Joseph’s Hospital page.)
- A book or magazine to read
- Please wear your glasses and hearing aids if required
On the day of your appointment:
- Eat, drink and take your medications as usual
- Bring any medication with you that you may need while at your appointment
- Wear comfortable clothing (avoid long underwear and pantyhose)
- Don’t wear any scents as we are a fragrance-free facility
