Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, Facial Plastic Surgery
Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery is a surgical specialty focused on problems in the head and neck region. Previously known as ear, nose, and throat (ENT), otolaryngologists are trained in both medicine and surgery of the whole head, face and neck region.
Conditions treated by otolaryngologists (head and neck surgeons), are wide-ranging and include sinus and breathing problems, nasal congestion, nose bleeds, deviated nasal septum, loss of smell or taste, growths or tumours in the head and neck, appearance of nose or face, drooping of eyelids, voice problems, sore throat, hoarseness, skin cancer, thyroid nodules and salivary gland growths.
Otolaryngologists perform surgery in the head and neck area using endoscopes, microscopes and traditional open techniques. Many procedures can be performed under local anesthesia.
