Medical Imaging: Bone Mineral Density (BMD) Testing

Bone Mineral Density (BMD) Testing

Bone mineral density testing is done to:

  • Measure potential bone loss in a person who has risk factors for osteoporosis, a disease characterized by low bone mass leading to fragile bones
  • Help the physician and patient determine the risk of future fractures
  • Determine the need for medical treatment or monitor the success of current treatment

Bone mineral density imaging is located within the Francis and Madeleine Saul Medical Imaging Centre at St. Joseph's Hospital in Zone C, Level 0, Room C0-200.
