Colposcopy - Before You Arrive

24 hours before your visit

For 24 hours before your visit please DO NOT:

  • Use tampons
  • Have sexual intercourse
  • Douche
  • Use vaginal medications or creams

Please note these actions will affect the accuracy of the repeat Pap test.

You CAN:

  • have a tub bath
  • eat normally the day of the appointment
  • take all medications as normal

Important safety concerns

If you start your menstrual period, call the clinic only if your flow is very heavy. We may need to change your appointment.

For safety reasons, genital piercings or belly rings must be removed before coming to the clinic.

Please note: We are unable to supervise children during your procedure. Please bring another adult with you or make other arrangements for your children.
