Amputee Rehabilitation Program - How To Access
Amputee rehabilitation program: admission criteria
- Has an amputation of one or more limbs
- Willing to work with the rehabilitation team and accept recommendations
- Has a clear discharge destination
Reasons why a patient may be declined or delayed
- Cannot learn and retain the steps required to correctly put on the limb
- Severe cardiac limitations
- Severe bilateral knee or hip contractures
- Bilateral above knee amputation (case specific exceptions are considered)
- Uncontained incontinence
- If the team deems it unsafe for the person to receive rehabilitation
- Unsafe discharge destination: patients should ensure their home or place they will live after the program is accessible and safe for someone using a wheelchair and artificial limb
