Student Security Packages

Once students are matched to a placement, they will receive a welcome email from NirvSystem, an online onboarding tool.  One of the pre-placement requirements in NirvSystem covers how students obtain a security package from St. Joseph’s Security Services:

1. Students upload their photo according to the specifications noted in NirvSystem a minimum of 14 days prior to their start date.
2. Students review and sign a document in NirvSystem indicating they understand and appreciate the process of obtaining and returning security items. This must also be completed a minimum of 14 days prior to their start date.
3. When all other pre-placement requirements are finished in NirvSystem, again no no later than 14 days prior to their start date, an automated message with the student’s photo to our Security Services team.
4. Security Services creates the security package.
5. Security emails the student through their school email account to indicate their security package is ready for pick up at the beginning of Day 1 of their placement.

Security packages may contain identification badges, relevant swipe card access, and personal alert devices. Placements cannot begin in the absence of St. Joseph’s security packages.

Students are expected to also wear any School-provided identification while on placement at St. Joseph’s, in addition to St. Joseph’s identification.

St. Joseph’s security items must be returned on the last day of placement directly to Security Services. These items cannot be kept as souvenirs. Students will be billed for lost and/or non-returned security items.

Note: Massage Therapy, Dental Hygiene and Paramedic students are not required to obtain a security package and/or ID due to the short duration of their placements. Exception: Paramedic students will require temp security packages only when placed at the Parkwood Institute, Finch Family Mental Health Care Building or the Southwest Centre for Forensic Mental Health Care.

Note: For nursing student groups with an Academic Clinical Instructor (CI), the CI picks up and returns all items to the Security Office at the end of the placement.  Exception: Clinical groups learning at Parkwood Institute, Finch Family Mental Health Care Building or the Southwest Centre for Forensic Mental Health Care must return their items at the end of each shift.
