Student Network, Access and Training
Student access to all electronic accounts and platforms is coordinated through the St. Joseph’s Student Affairs Department, in collaboration with various internal partners across our organization (i.e. Information Technology Services, Pharmacy Services, Quality Management and Clinical Decision Support, Point of Care Team). Here are some of the access or accounts student may access while completing a student placement
• Corporate Network Access (all students)
• St. Joseph’s email account (all students)
• OneChart account (Electronic Patient Record) (students providing care to patients)
• InfoMed account (workload measurement for Health Discipline students and Inpatient Nursing students)
• Point of Care account (bar codes to use with glucose monitors for Integrative Practicum Nursing students)
• Pyxis Account (secure medication storage and use of bar codes that link a patient’s wristband identification to the medication being administered for Integrative Practicum Nursing students)
Corporate Network Access
Student Affairs shares student logins with each school through a process called Secure File Transfer. Schools will then share student logins directly with students prior to their start date. Your corporate login enables you to use our corporate desktop applications and is also required to login to various accounts listed below. If you are a St. Joseph’s employee, you will receive a separate login for access to the Electronic Patient Record to use in your clinical instructor role.
OneChart (Electronic Health Record) Access & Training
Students providing direct clinical care to patients will receive an account to use our electronic heath record, which we call OneChart, for the duration of their placement. Student Affairs share OneChart logins with each school to pass onto the students.
Student Affairs shares OneChart training (called a “Learning Journey”) to student’s school email accounts. Please check junk and spam folders for this learning. This cannot be built into NirvSystem at this time as it is a regional education tool.
Nursing students completing Integrative Practice (IP) placements will receive an additional classroom-based training once they start their placement. Student Affairs shares the in-class schedule with the school placement coordinator in advance of the placement start date. This classroom training is mandatory and placements will be paused if students miss their assigned classroom.
InfoMed Account & Training
Student Affairs shares InfoMed account logins to students’ Joseph’s email accounts. The email will include further instruction and a quick reference training guide. Students also complete an InfoMed learning module within NirvSystem.
Point of Care Account
The Point of Care Team forwards each student’s bar code to their respective St. Joseph’s preceptor who will then share it with their student. Relevant students also complete a learning module in NirvSystem on Point of Care Access.
Pyxis Account
Students access their Pyxis Account with their corporate network login and password. Following your access, you will be required to follow the instructions on the pyxis machine to set up your bio-ID (fingerprint). Your preceptor will teach you how to use the Pyxis machine, and we have included a Pyxis Checklist in your NirvSystem account for reference also.
