St. Joseph’s lowers flags for National Day of Observance

Today – March 11 – St. Joseph’s marks National Day of Observance with the lowering of our flags to mourn the loss of Canadians due to COVID-19, and to acknowledge the immeasurable impacts of the pandemic on the lives of every Canadian. 

National Day of Observance was designated on March 11, 2021 to coincide with the one-year anniversary of COVID-19 being declared a global pandemic by the World Health Organization. It has now been two years since COVID-19 swept the globe causing tremendous suffering and sacrifice. In that time, there has been more than three million cases of COVID-19 in Canada, and more than 36,000 Canadians have died from the virus.

Today, we reflect on the lives lost during this still-evolving pandemic, the fight waged by our St. Joseph’s family and health care workers across the country, the fortitude of all essential workers, and the resilience of every Canadian.
 
We look back at the monumental challenges we have faced together, we look ahead to the promise of brighter days, and we recognize just how far we have come.
