Thinking outside the box
Without a doubt, the COVID-19 pandemic has brought uncertainty, anxiety and concern around the globe. But it has also created sweet moments of opportunity, generosity and gratitude.
Girl Guides of Canada thought outside of the box – quite literally – and found a new and clever way to sell the beloved cookies that fund their life-changing programs, experiences and learning. And this year, cookie sales will also pay tribute to frontline health care workers.
Girl Guides established a new online donation program that allows community members to donate a box of cookies in recognition and support of health care providers. St. Joseph’s was one of the lucky recipients to receive the delicious treats.
None of this would have been possible without thoughtful community members and Morrison Food Services, who partnered with Guide Guides of Canada to help distribute the cookies to all staff and physicians at St. Joseph’s.
Kim Mantovani, District Manager at Compass Group Canada, is thrilled about the partnership and the sweet surprise. “The Compass Group is exceptionally fortunate to be working alongside such an outstanding partner, Girl Guides of Canada, who have made a national effort to bring joy and cheerfulness to those working in a health care setting during this unprecedented time,” says Kim.
Morrison Food Services, a division of the Compass Group, is dedicated to providing food, nutrition and dining services to health care communities, which include the cafeterias at St. Joseph’s.
Lori Higgs, Vice President Clinical Support and Chief Financial Officer St. Joseph's adds that St. Joseph’s is beyond grateful for the donations from community members. “It’s been a difficult time for many,“ says Lori, “a little boost and generosity of spirit from our community goes a long way during this difficult time and we are truly grateful for the outpouring of support.”
