Treatment and Rehabilitation Program

The Mental Health Care Treatment and Rehabilitation Program at Parkwood Institute provides both inpatient and outpatient care for individuals aged 18 and older who have severe, persistent and complex mental illness that have not fully responded to treatment.

Services include assessment and stabilization to long-term rehabilitation and complex care. Qualified and experienced teams provide care in inpatient, outpatient and outreach settings.

Our program focuses on providing treatment and rehabilitation to help individuals reach their highest potential for recovery while living with and managing a mental illness.

With the support of our health care team, patients regain valuable life skills allowing them to live in the community of their choice, while achieving their personal goals and learning to manage their illness.

The mental health care program is a regional resource serving individuals with specialized mental health needs from Middlesex, Elgin, Oxford, Grey-Bruce, Lambton and Huron-Perth Counties.

Our aim

Recovery is the ultimate goal for our patients. Together with the patient and their family, we work on a treatment plan that will enable individuals to achieve their personal goals.

We aim to help adults manage their illness so that they can be successful and satisfied and participate in the community while maintaining an increased level of independence and a high level of quality of life.

Teaching and research

We partner with educational institutions across Canada and beyond in placing students from all disciplines in a clinical setting for the purposes of education. We take pride in contributing to the education of future health care professionals.

Our team members are committed to continued learning for both themselves and our patients. This is achieved through interactive participation in research and understanding the work of others in the mental health care field.

Community connection

We work collaboratively with our community partners in order to provide coordinated services to patients to create a smooth and timely transition to community after a stay in hospital.
